5 series I will always talk about.

Fun fact: I wanted to title this ‘5 series I will never stop screaming about’ but that wouldn’t fit.

Everyone has their collection of books that they love. And then there are people who have books that they scream endlessly into the void about and try to recruit everyone they know into reading. Because sometimes there are books you feel a very strong need to share with every single person in existence, even if they don’t like reading that genre of book.

( Though, to be fair… I tend to read fantasies. And that is not everyone’s slice of cake. )

So with no further ado…

HARRY POTTER, by J.K. Rowling. I have always been, and always will be, a fan of the Harry Potter series. It’s my favorite series. It’s comforting and it’s funny and it’s sad and it’s outright fun to read, and I will always come back to it. I probably reread it twice a year. Except I skip the first two books and go straight to either book 4 or book 6 and then reread the rest out of order and then cry a bit because a certain character dies in book 5. But as J.K. Rowling once said, “Hogwarts is always there to welcome you home.”

( I’m a Slytherin, by the way. )

PERCY JACKSON, by Rick Riordan. If I had to pick a second favorite series, it would be this one. Greek mythology! Great characters!! A really great series structure!!! Literally everything about this series!!!! Yeah, I love these books. I also love pretty much every other thing he has written ( especially Magnus Chase and Trials of Apollo. )

I have actually owned this series twice. I got rid of it ( and my copies of The Lost Hero and The House of Hades ) after the latter came out. Then I bought the series again in 2015 with the new covers that, when put next to each other, make a mural picture thing! I wish I had never sold my copies though. I think I only got five dollars for them. They originally belonged to my grandfather, passed down to me ( I’m not even kidding. )

GALLAGHER GIRLS, by Ally Carter. While I am not too fond of her newer book (*cough* Take the Key and Lock Her Up *cough*), I loved Gallagher Girls. Spies! Danger! Intrigue! Spies! A group of female friends who stay friends! Some well written romance! SPIES! ( Did I mention the spies? ) While personally I think the first book is a bit bleh, after that it gets really good. The last three books are my favorites.

ARTEMIS FOWL, by Eoin Colfer. I can’t remember when I first read this series but I honestly don’t care, it’s one of the best middle grade / young adult series in existence ( I say both because at one of the libraries I go to it is in the YA section but in the other it is shelved alongside middle grade novels. ) Holly is awesome. Artemis is awesome. They’re all awesome. I mean… a series about a 12-year-old genius who kidnaps a fairy for gold? GENIUS. ( No pun intended. )

THE LUNAR CHRONICLES, by Marissa Meyer. Did someone say ‘fairy tales’? Or did I hear ‘sci fi’? Or was that ‘Cinderella as a cyborg’? Either way, if you like fairy tale retellings, science fiction, and fantasy… this is the series for you! Marissa Meyer is probably one of the BEST young adult authors there is. I absolutely adore her writing style and her characters and… pretty much everything about her books.

( I also got my mom to read Heartless and she loved it so there’s an added bonus to Marissa Meyer’s novels. Do you know how hard it is to get my family to read books? My sister is outright impossible. )

You know, probably everyone has their favorite series, or favorite standalone, or at least the book that makes them want to throw the book at the wall or maybe a chair. That kind of book.

So what’s yours?

  1. Hey! I read the Warriors series on your recommendation. And I introduced you to Harry Potter and then you stole all my books! I have to borrow them back if I want to read them! And I’m still waiting for you to read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. And anything by Jane Austen!

    • Thank you!! It honestly kinda fits me. If I could get paid in chocolate to write novels, I would probably be sick all the time but I would finish 8 novels in a year. I love chocolate.

Oooh! My mom’s trying to get me to read Lord of the Rings. I hear it’s VERY good, same with Discworld… I’ve heard loads about that one!
Artemis Fowl is really good in my opinion, though, and once you’re finished with it I’d love to hear what you think!

  2. Do we happen to cry over the same character in HP? 😮 (I’m a Gryffinpuff)
My favorite series would be The Chronicles of Narnia, Tales of Goldstone Wood, Harry Potter, and The Lunar Chronicles.
